Day one of Simplify - today the 1st October
I woke with a positive frame of mind and as I ate my cereal I thought about the day ahead. "I will have no problem spending little today" - I said to myself.
At the Evangelical Alliance, where I work, we have a staff lunch each month and today was our turn to cook as a Communications team. Ideal chance to do a Simplify lunch, we thought, so we chose two soups and one of the other recipes from the website.
I left home at 8.45am with a food processor that I had promised to bring in to the office in order to blend the soup. I plan to bike in every day on Simplify but because I was carrying a load I had to get the train. I set the box down as I paid for my ticket and it fell on its side.
To my horror when I picked it up again I realised the glass jug was completely smashed and what made matters worse was that this item belonged to my housemate and I was borrowing it just for the day!
Well - we needed one to use for our lunch so I still had to take one to work and I certainly had to buy my housemate a new one, so I resigned myself to it and headed to Debenhams.
Finding myself in the kitchen department of the store and purchasing a kitchen appliance for £45, within my first hour of Simplify, was rather ironic and absolutely ridiculous! I found myself laughing out loud at the till and the shop assistant thought I was loony. Oh well - that's my whole emergency buffer money used up already!
I may not have had a good start but I will try to gain the positivity back that I started with this morning. As I near the end of the day I am about to head to the pub for some tap water, with some friends, to drown my sorrows that I am minus £45 already.
